Momentum

Some tasks just seem overwhelming….to start. I work with schools and districts as they implement new projects. There are two parts that it seems are the most difficult: getting started and monitoring implementation.

I focus my efforts on program management. This helps in getting started. I believe to implement a project, it takes time to thoughtfully construct the plan and engage the right stakeholders in the process. This can be daunting for some as they start to contemplate all of the steps to move from the beginning to the implementation side. However, there is comfort in being proactive. The comfort comes in defining the anticipated risks and mitigation strategies so that when things happen (and they will) no one is surprised.

In the book Good to Great, they reference the flywheel. This is a great analogy to consider how it takes work for a new initiative to begin, but once it is in flight, it can continue to move and make progress. Momentum is key to continuing to move forward.
